Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Deliberations in the Rochester murder trial of Alexander Weiss will likely begin Monday after the jury hears closing arguments.

The highlight of Friday’s proceedings was the testimony of Weiss, who is on trial for last year’s shooting death of 17-year-old Muhammed Rahim.

Weiss told the jury the incident began when his vehicle was struck by a car driven by Rahim. Weiss said he got out of his car and began walking to Rahim’s vehicle. He said that’s when 17-year-old Noah Dukart got out of Rahim’s car and walked towards him in an aggressive manner. Weiss said Dukart was yelling and threatening to beat him up. Weiss said he went back to his car to get his phone and gun and showed the weapon to Dukart.

Weiss testified Rahim then approached and also began yelling, acting aggressively and threatening to assault him. Weiss said Rahim walked up to him, spit in his face and grabbed the barrel of his gun. Weiss said he pulled the gun away, chambered a round and when Rahim grabbed for it a second time, he fired.

Weiss repeatedly testified he was “extremely frightened” by the behavior of the two teenagers who he says were upset because he was going to call 911.

Weiss - who grew up and was home-schooled in Pine Island - attended RCTC during his high school years and testified he witnessed several violent incidents while there. He said that experience and later drug activity at his apartment complex led to his decision to get a permit to carry a gun several years ago.

Weiss was on the stand for more than an hour and a half.
