The Caledonia Warriors defeated the Lewiston-Altura Cardinals in Lewiston last night 73-55 on KFIL in Three Rivers Conference action.

It was a fast-paced game, especially early. Caledonia jumped out to a 16-7 lead, as the tempo was more suited for their team. They were forcing turnovers, and getting points early.

The Warriors continued their full-court pressure, but the Cardinals were able to slow down and make adjustments. Lewiston-Altura broke the full-court press, and started to get easy looks by the rim, cutting the lead to 22-18 with 8:45 remaining in the first half.

Then, the Warriors switched their defense to a half-court look, switching between trapping the corners of the court, or playing a high-pressured man defense. They also played a 1-3-1 zone, and a 1-2-2 zone.

The different combinations of defense started to take a toll on the Cardinals, as they were not getting easy looks near the rim anymore.

The Warriors got some great play from Austin Heim, who contributed 10 points in the first half. He did a great job of cutting to the rim, and Caledonia's Owen King was able to find him in transition for some easy buckets. Heim finished with 12.

The Warriors finished he half on a 23-8 run, and took a 45-26 lead into the break.

Caledonia continued to put pressure on the defense of end, but the Cardinals Spencer Speltz attacked the zone, getting looks all over the court to lead the Cardinals with 18 points.

The Warriors countered with Noah King, who did most of his work on the inside. He had a couple different post moves in his arsenal, and led the Warriors with 17 points. He had 10 in the first half.

The Warriors were just able to force more turnovers, and that is what truly gave them the edge in this one. The Cardinals got some nice three-point shooting from Alex Brown, who had 15 points on five 3's.

The second half was played pretty even, as players were all over the floor diving for loose balls. Every time the Cardinals looked to go on a run, the Warriors were able to get a quick bucket and stop any comeback attempt.
