I had the fortune of calling two games on KFIL Sports last night. The doubleheader featured the Houston Hurricanes hosting the Kingsland Knights. The boys game was first and you can read about that here

That left the girls game to play, and many similarities occurred. Kingsland got on the scoreboard first. The opening run was 13-1 for a big lead early. Houston got in for a couple buckets but then some aggressive offense (often off of defense), including a couple old-fashioned three-point plays gave a similar run to the visiting Knights of 12-0. Kingsland ended the half on an 11-2 run and the halftime score was 40-13 Kingsland...both teams a point off the first half totals their boys' teams had scored.

After halftime, again not much scoring early. Rebecca Lee got the scoring going for Houston, but not until over 6 minutes had passed in the second half. Houston did later go on a 5-0 run, but it was too little too late, and the Kingsland girls completed the

doubleheader sweep over Houston, 59-24 (again that score just about the same as the boys game).

KFIL Subway Player of the Game for the Houston Hurricanes was Amber Chapel. The junior came off the bench, scoring only 2 points, but she was active once she came into the game with a blocked shot, a couple steals, assist, rebounds, so she takes home the honors. For the Kingsland Knights, Lauren Buchholtz was not going to be stopped. The sophomore guard drove in and went to the free throw line so many times in the first half, my stat sheet was going to need more room if the scoring had continued in the second half. Lauren scored 16 total points, while she made 8 of 10 free throws. Lauren Buchholtz is the KFIL Subway Player of the Game for the Kingsland Knights.

The Kingsley Mercantile Game Ball goes to someone who scored 6 in each half, hauled in a number of defensive and offensive rebounds, and had a block, assist, and some steals. Senior Gracie Schmidt was the winner of the Kingsley Mercantile Game Ball.
