Southeast Minnesota and Section 1 has been a dominant force in softball for a while, and that doesn't look to change anytime soon.

Early this week, the MSHSL released the Top-Ten rankings for softball teams in each of the four classes. Southeast Minnesota was well represented again, nailing down one team in Class A and four teams in Class AA.

Section 1's lone representative in the Class A rankings is Hayfield, who has had a dominant run in Section 1 for a couple of years but will have their hands full with Waterville-Elysian-Morristown, who has swept the Vikings this season. WEM received votes for the top-ten this past week. Randolph, in Section 3 but a familiar name in the SEC, is ranked number one in the state.

Class AA has four teams in the top seven, and it is the familiar names at the top. Rochester Lourdes is ranked 2nd, Cotter is 4th, Zumbrota-Mazzepa 5th and Chatfield is 7th.

Those four teams are all expected to compete for the section title and really shows how deep Section 1 truly is. There is some very, very good softball across SE MN and the state ranks prove again that something amazing could happen at any turn.
