The Rushford-Peterson Trojans never gave up, they played hard all tournament long but fell in a close battle to Hinkley/Finlayson in the consolation bracket of the Class A State Tournament in Jordan.

Brady Johnson hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to score Travis Viser to get a 7-6 win over the Rushford-Peterson Trojans.

Going into the top of the seventh, the Trojans were trailing 4-2. Then, it got strange. The Trojans put up four runs in the seventh to take a 6-4 lead. Nolan Mueller got the party started with a walk, and then Landon Skalet tripled to score one to make it 4-3. Then, with two outs, Ben Ansell hit a ground ball to third that was booted and tied the game at four.

Dawson Dahl reached on an error and then Shawn Marg was intentionally walked to load the bases. Carter Widemann then delivered a two-out single to score two runs and give the Trojans a 6-4 lead. Headed to the bottom of the of the inning.

The Trojans could not just shake the errors enough, as the three errors in the inning that allowed Johnson to hit the RBI single for the win.

It was a back-and-forth affair late in the game, but it started as a pitching duel between R-P's Nolan Mueller and Hinkley/Finlayson's Ryan Stanfe.

Mueller and Stanfe each allowed two runs through five innings of work and both were dominating the lineups.

The Jaguars put up two runs in the first, but the Trojans came back with two more in the fourth to tie things up. Then in the sixth, the Jaguars scored two runs to take a lead.

The Trojans played well and fought to the end, a true mantra of their entire season. Coming from down 5-0 in the section title game to win it, all the way through the State Tournament.
