The NFL teamed up with the Texas Medical Center over Super Bowl weekend for a unique contest in which companies from around the country got to pitch their ideas on how to advance the game of football and the safety of its players.

Nine startups were given four minutes each to present at the '1st and Future' contest in front of a panel of doctors, business leaders and current and former NFL players.

Sportstechie.com reports the three winners - GoRout from Rochester, Minnesota; Mobile Virtual Player from Lebanon, New Hampshire; and Windpact of Leesburg, Virginia. - each received a check for $50,000, two Super Bowl game tickets and acceptance into TMCx, the Texas Medical Center’s incubator for health care and life science startups.

GoRout designs on-field wearable technology and real-time playmaking software that helps football teams practice more efficiently.
