Des Moines, Iowa-based regional grocery chain Hy-Vee has served the Rochester area for more than 30 years. While feeding a whole bunch of Rochester families during that time, they have also fed many families in need. But this month is special...

This September is National Family Meals Month, a campaign sponsored by the Food Marketing Institute. To promote the month, Hy-Vee has launched a charity donation challenge to get families to eat one more meal together a week AND raise money for families in need.

The idea is pretty simple, really, according to Tara Deering-Hansen, Group Vice President, for Hy-Vee's Communications Department, "In September, for every person who shares our Facebook post or this Tweet promoting families eating together, we will donate $1 to Meals from the Heartland, up to $100,000. We will also make a $1 donation for every family who posts a photo of themselves eating a meal together on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram that uses the hashtag #HyVeeFamilyMeals," she explains.

The program really embraces two areas close to Hy-Vee - building strong families and helping others. Meals from the Heartland is just one of several organizations that Hy-Vee supports on a corporate level. "Along with local nonprofit giving, Hy-Vee supports several nonprofit organizations such as JDRF, Variety–The Children’s Charity, Make-A-Wish, and the American Red Cross. We also raise funds and awareness for military members and veterans through the Hy-Vee Homefront initiative and for children with cancer through our Hy-Vee Pinky Swear Kids Triathlons," Deering-Hansen said. "In 2015, Hy-Vee gave more than $42.8 million in corporate and store donations."

You can help them with this one, but you've got to hurry! Just sit down as a family, take a selfie of your family eating a meal together, post it on one of the areas mentioned above, and help raise $100,000 for families in need!
