Washington, DC (KROC-AM News) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the recall of 118 million pounds of propane sold by a Canadian company.

Crescent Point Energy ordered the recall after determining the fuel did not have adequate amounts of an additive that gives the gas a smell that can be detected in the event of a leak.

The recall involves LP delivered to consumers for use in storage tanks and for use in portable refillable tanks but are often used on gas grills, stoves and other appliances. It was distributed to Minnesota, Wisconsin, North and South Dakota, and 7 other states.

Crescent Point Energy says consumers should not attempt to test the propane themselves. Instead they should contact the retailer or supplier and arrange for an inspection.
