Saturated soil, mudslide, and water over the trail has caused the Minnesota DNR to close a portion of the Root River State Trail in Southeast Minnesota for the weekend.

According to the Root River Trail Towns Facebook Page, the Minnesota DNR closed down the trail from Rushford to Houston for the weekend. With torrential rainfall since June (well not actually, but it feels like it) the trail has had plenty saturated soil throughout.

Here is what the Minnesota DNR had to say on their website:

"Due to recent rainfall, users should expect mud, standing water and debris on the trails.   There may be trees down due to saturated soils.  Users should proceed with caution."

Hopefully with the warm weather, along with some dry weather forecasted for the next couple of days, the trail will be able to get back open as soon as possible so visitors, residents and everyone can utilize the trail to check out some of the best views in the state.

You can keep up with the closure on the DNR's website HERE.
