It was a straight pitchers duel on Cool 104 on Thursday evening. It came down to the seventh inning when junior Samantha Hinrichs hit a walk-off single to score Mallory Newcomb to give the Plainview-Elgin-Millville Bulldogs a 2-1 victory over the Fillmore Central/Lanesboro Falcons in softball.

It was an impressive performance from both pitchers. Freshman Krista Jorgenson went 6 and 2/3 innings, gave up one earned run on two hits, struck out four. It was two costly walks in the bottom of the seventh that propelled the Bulldogs to the victory.

Junior Hayley Dessner was dynamite on the mound, as she pitched seven innings, allowing one run, unearned, on two hits and struck out 10. Both pitchers won player of the game awards for their outstanding efforts on the mound

The first big play came in the top of the third, when Katelin Mensink hit a ground ball to first, and Lauren Boyum was able to step on the bag and throw home to double-up Krista Jorgenson.

The Bulldogs were able to get on the board first in the fourth inning, when Maria Stock was able to bait a throw to first base, while Paige Gudmundson was on third. When the throw went down to first base, Gudmundson took off and was safe at the plate.

It was 1-0 headed into the final frame, when the Falcons were able to push their own run across. Maggie McKernan reached via the walk, and on a single from Claire Pieper was able to advance to third. The throw to third was wild, which allowed McKernan to advance to home and score to tie the game at one.

It looked like the game was going to go into extra innings, but the Bulldogs were able to draw two walks and have runners at second and third when Hinrichs got to the plate. Hinrichs then singled to center field and the game was over in walk-off fashion.

It was an exciting game, as both pitchers were able to dominate and control what was going on in the field of play.

With the win, the Bulldogs won their third game in a row and moved to 7-5 on the season, while the Falcons fell to 1-11.
