1858-The Yankton Dakota cede the area around their Pipestone quarry
1865-St. Paul businesses close and city officials wear black armbands on the national day of Mourning for President Abraham Lincoln
1866-Samuel J. Brown receives word that an Indian raid is headed for settlements in Minnesota. He makes the ride only to find the report is erroneous.
1902-The Duluth public Library opens
1945-"Hail! Minnesota" becomes the state song.
