Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A normally quiet suburban area in rural southwest Rochester was a hotbed of law enforcement activity Wednesday evening.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Department responded to reports of a man walking around with a shotgun in the vicinity of the Izaak Walton League property along Salem Road Southwest around 5:30 p.m.

When deputies arrived at the scene, the man ran into a wooded area and Sheriff Kevin Torgerson says the individual fired the gun in the presence of the law enforcement personnel. That led to a large manhunt that included a State Patrol helicopter and the Rochester Police Department’s new drone.

Torgerson says the law enforcement operation concluded around 9:20 p.m. after a 27-year-old man was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for an evaluation and mental health treatment. The Sheriff also stated only one individual was responsible for the large law enforcement response.

Additional information is expected to be released Thursday morning.
