Byron, MN (KROC AM News) - Somehow a Mantorville man not only survived spending a long cold night on a rural Byron street - but he apparently won’t be facing any “long-term effects.”

Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Kirby Long says a passerby called 911 around 7:00 AM Saturday after finding the man in the middle of the road in the 1500 block of 23rd St NW, about 2 miles from Byron High School.

The man was treated at the scene by Gold Cross paramedics and then taken to St. Marys Hospital. His core body temperature had fallen to 85-degrees when he was checked.

The man - 51-year-old Brian Quimby - told deputies he had been at a friend’s house in Byron Friday night and left for home around 10:00 PM. Long says Quimby’s vehicle became stuck a few miles away and he called his son but got no answer and then decided to walk home, which was several miles away.

Quimby fell as he was walking and said he could not get back on his feet because of his bad knees. Quimby said he tried using his cellphone but it failed to operate because of the cold weather.

Temperatures late Friday night were around zero and fell a few degrees below zero by the time Quimby was found.

He was listed in good condition at St. Marys Monday morning.
