Dodge Center, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Dodge County Sheriff’s Department says a juvenile boy was arrested Sunday following a joyride in a stolen cement truck.

Sheriff Scott Rose says his department received a request for assistance around 3pm from the State Patrol, which indicated troopers were pursuing a cement truck on Highway 14 after an attempt to stop the driver for speeding. About 5 minutes into the chase, a State Patrol vehicle was hit by the truck, and the State Troopers involved terminated their pursuit.

Sheriff Rose says Dodge County Deputies and Kasson Police continued trying to stop the truck, and several attempts were made to use stop sticks to disable it as it headed into Dodge Center. That’s where the young driver drove over a set of the stop sticks, puncturing the right front tire. Unfortunately, that did not end the chase.

The truck sped out of Dodge Center toward Kasson on gravel roads at speeds reading 65 to 70 miles per hour. A Kasson Police squad was hit by the truck while the officer was attempting to alert and stop traffic on Dodge County Road 13 before the chase went south of Kasson toward Byron, and then back toward Dodge Center on Highway 14.

With the truck running only on one front tire, the juvenile driver went back into Dodge Center, prompting the law officers to back off their pursuit and follow the truck without lights or sirens as a State Patrol helicopter tracked it from the air. Sheriff Rose says, about an hour and fifteen minutes after the chase began, the cement truck stopped in a cul-de-sac in a southeastern area of Dodge Center, where the suspect was captured when he attempted to flee on foot.

The boy, whom witnesses described as around 11 or 12 years old, is being held at the Juvenile Detention Center in Rochester.
