Do you remember your First Kiss? No, not that one, the newest apple made here in Minnesota! If you haven't been out to the fair yet this year, here is some more motivation for you to go this weekend. You'll have a chance to sample the newest apple, First Kiss, this weekend in the Horticulture Building for $3.

The apple was created by the University of Minnesota and was available for sampling on Tuesday but supplies ran out. But the company that's growing the newest fruit,  Honeybear Brands, has announced that a limited quantity of the apple will also be available to buy at Lunds & Byerly's stores across the Twin Cities metro-area over Labor Day weekend.

The First Kiss is a relative of the U of M's famous Honeycrisp apple and will share a similar price to it as well this weekend when it will be on sale for $3.99 per pound. The University of Minnesota website mnhardy.umn.edu describes the apple as "Lightly Tart and Aromatic."

The First Kiss was created by cross-breeding a Honeycrisp with an early ripening apple variety from the University of Arkansas. It's the work of apple breeders David Bedford and Jim Luby, who first started in the late '90s trying to create an apple with a similar texture and taste to the Honeycrisp but with an earlier harvest.

The apple will be grown throughout Minnesota but is in short supply this year, so you've got to get them while you can.
