The Rushford-Peterson Trojans found themselves in a tough defensive showdown with the Goodhue Wildcats in a rematch from earlier this season when the Wildcats got the win 14-7.

Goodhue's defense was tremendous all season and proved it again at home against a tough Rushford-Peterson team. The Trojans were in the red zone three different times but could not cash in, while the Wildcats were able to finally find the end zone on a four-yard score from Kaleb O'Reilly to take a 6-0 lead into the half.

Right out of the half Goodhue was able to march down the field and plunge in a one-yard score from O'Reilly again to build a 14-0 lead.

The Trojans defense held strong for most of the game, but the offense struggled to find the paydirt. Rushford-Peterson's Ethan Sense ran the ball 15 times for 46 yards, while Landon Skalet completed 13 passes, eight of them to Ethan Hermanson including one score but it came too late in the game.

The defense of both teams was great, but a fourth-quarter score from Kyle Schoenfelder to ice the game and a 20-7 win for Goodhue.

Goodhue will take on Blooming Prairie in the Section 1A final Saturday night at Rochester Regional Sports Stadium.

It was a great season for the Trojans, but a stout Goodhue defense was just too much to overcome.
