Canton, MN (KROC-AM News) - A 24-year-old Fillmore County man is being held on felony charges stemming from a deadly hit and run involving an Amish buggy Friday afternoon. Fillmore County Sheriff Tom Kaase says the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call around 3:45 pm reporting that an Amish buggy had been hit by a car and the driver of the car had left the scene.

Deputies and other emergency responders were sent to a location along Fillmore County Road 21, about 3 miles north of Canton, and found two teenagers and an adult male were in the buggy. The teenagers, who are 17 and 19-years-old were injured, but Sheriff Kaase says the 21-year-old was critically hurt and later died at a hospital in La Crosse. His name and the names of the two teenage crash victims have not been released.

A press release indicates the car suspected of crashing into the buggy was later found abandoned and hidden in a hay field west of the crash site along County Road 16. Sheriff Kaase says a K9 Officer from the Houston County Sheriff’s Department was brought in to track the driver, which led to the arrest of 24-year-old Connor Keene of Canton. He is expected to be arraigned next week on criminal vehicular homicide and other charges.
