Submitted by Ben Aberg.   Friday night, KFIL brought you a 3 Rivers Conference battle between the Fillmore Central Falcons and the Rushford-Peterson Trojans. Rain for much of the week moved a few area games back a day or to a different location, but the field conditions were fine to get the game going, but not without some early difficulty. In the opening minutes, both teams had trouble holding on to the ball, with the ball coming loose on early possessions by both squads.  Trojans running back Noah Carlson got Rushford-Peterson on the board first with a halfback pass of 23 yards. Carlson was active in the kicking and punting, as well as returning on special teams as well. The Trojans travelled down into Falcon territory with another long drive that was capped off by a touchdown on the ground, Noah Carlson running one in from a yard out to give Rushford-Peterson a 12-0 lead.  Fillmore Central started to open up the offense with a strong ground game and a few pass plays of over 20 yards going, but could not get in the end zone in the first half.  The Falcons took some momentum from their offense getting it going, and they went on a long drive to take up half of the 3rd quarter and got in the end zone on a 5-yard pass from Riley Means. The Falcons had a little trouble on the extra point and had plenty of pressure, but turned it into a pass for the 2-point conversion and a deficit down to 12-8.  The rest of the game was the hard-nosed kind of football we had come to see; both teams got some power runs in and the Falcons aired it out a few times to keep things moving, and they had good field position much of the second half. As time wound down in the 4th quarter, the Falcons had an opportunity for good field position with a Rushford-Peterson 3rd down and 5 from the Trojan 15 yard line. The Trojans were not to be stopped. The 3rd down handoff to Noah Carlson took the Trojans 85 yards into the end zone the game was put out of reach as the score stood 18-8.
“Subway Player of the Game” for Fillmore Central went to Samuel Rustad. Rustad came up with some big catches of 20+ yards and his diving attempts to make a couple of catches really stood out. Rushford-Peterson’s “Subway Player of the Game” goes to Noah Carlson again. Carlson accounted for all 3 Trojan scores, with one pass and 2 rushing touchdowns. The “Kingsley Mercantile Game Ball” award goes to Lukas Rasmussen. The Trojan cornerback was given the job of trying to stop Sam Rustad. Rasmussen came up big, with good coverage and big interception as the Falcons tried to air it out for the comeback.
