Mendota Heights, MN (KROC-AM News) - The home of the Dakota County Sheriff was hit by a bullet over the weekend, but investigators have determined the residence was not targeted by the shooter.

In a statement issued by the Dakota County Sheriff's Department Monday afternoon,  Sheriff Tim Leslie indicated a bullet struck his house in Mendota Heights around 4 AM Saturday.

Investigators from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension later learned that people living several blocks away were awakened by four or five gunshots near their homes at about the same time, and it appears the Sheriff's house was hit by a stray bullet from that gunfire.

There have been no reported injuries from the shooting, which remains under investigation.
