Big 2nd Half Leads Grand Meadow Over Fillmore Central
The #7 Grand Meadow Superlarks used a big second half to outlast the Fillmore Central Falcons 57-38 in a Section 1A Showdown Tuesday night at Fillmore Central High School.
It was a slow start to the second half, but Riley Queensland and Jordyn Glynn were able to get the offense rolling quickly to push the Superlarks to a 50-35 lead with about 7 minutes to go.
Glynn scored on back-to-back possessions, Queensland hit a 3 and then Glynn hit one the next possession. The 10-point outburst led the way for Grand Meadow to get the win.
The Superlarks used a full-court defense to put a lot of pressure on the Falcons and were able to get out in transition to help push the tempo in the second half.
The first half was a different story. Grand Meadow held a 20-7 lead, and then the Falcons started to lock things down defensively and got on a run of their own. The Falcons finished the half on a 19-6 run and we were tied at the break, 26-all.
Kassidy Broadwater had her fingerprints all over the game, getting steals, making shots and playing some great defense, Emma Breitsprecher also made many plays and hit a big 3 to give the Falcons a lead in the first half.
The defense of the Superlarks was able to turn things around, behind 23 points from Queensland and another 16 from Glynn. Broadwater and Madison Scheevel had 9 points and Breitsprecher added eight to pace the Falcons.
The Superlarks moved 3-0 on the year while the Falcons fell to 2-1 on the season.
