Video From the 2016 Rochester Polar Plunge
The 2016 Rochester Polar Plunge was a huge success. Preliminary totals indicate at 920 people braved the bitter cold and jumped into the 32-degree water at Foster Arend Park Saturday afternoon. Sheriff Kevin Torgerson, who has been a key organizer of the Rochester event for 15 years, says a record $243,000 dollars was raised for Special Olympics Minnesota. Torgerson made three plunges this year, including one with his wife to help celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary.
At the start of the event, a group of dedicated "Super Plungers" were recognized before making their 24th plunge in the 24 hours leading up to the official start of this year's Polar Plunge.
We weren't able to stay for the entire event, but the following video shows many of the hundreds of brave souls who "took the plunge" to help out the Special Olympics program.
Minnesota Vikings player and John Marshall High School graduate Marcus Sherels was a featured plunger this year.
