Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Department of Transportation is working to spread the word about a major highway project that is expected to result in significant traffic disruptions in Rochester this summer.

MNDOT spokesman Mike Dougherty has begun meeting with business owners and others with property along South Broadway to apprise them of the plans to replace the bridge decks on the Highway 52 bridges at the South Broadway interchange. The project calls for widening the decks to accommodate another lane for traffic entering Highway 52 from South Broadway.

During the project, the loop entrance ramps will be closed for periods of time. Dougherty says Rochester could see it's first ever metered freeway entrance ramps to help motorists safely enter Highway 52 while traffic is limited to a single lane for the project. Electronic signage could also be deployed to advise motorists of the length of the delays they could experience at the interchange while the work is taking place.

Dougherty recently discussed the project during a recent appearance on KROC-AM with Tracy McCray and Andy Brownell during the Rochester Today Show. You listen hear Mike's description of the work and learn just how busy the Highway 52/South Broadway interchange is, by playing the YouTube video at the top of this post.
