Top Toys for the 2014 Holiday Season: Elsa Takes Top Spot from Barbie!

The runaway success of Disney’s movie “Frozen” has even had an impact on gifts for children this holiday season!

A recent survey by the National Retail Federation revealed that 20 percent of shoppers this year plan to by a “Frozen”-related gift for a little girl in their life. That tops the list, and drops Barbie to number two on the list, down from the number one gift for girls for the first time in the survey’s 11-year history!

Electronics dot the lists for both boys and girls, with gaming systems and tablets in both Top 10s. Longtime toys such as Barbie, LEGO and Hot Wheels cars and accessories all found their way on the list, with LEGO tops for boys and at number six for girls.

There are also toys making comebacks with a new generation of kids, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Transformers on the list for boys and My Little Pony placing number eight on the girls list.
