1808-The American Fur Company is formed by John Jacob Astor.  The company existed until 1842.

1851-The first known baptism happens in the upper Mississippi River

1956-The C.L. Austin, an ore boat, picks up the first load of taconite at Silver Bay.

1982-The Minnesota Twins lose to the Seattle Mariners 11-7 in the Metrodome's first regular-season baseball game.
