May 15-21, 2016 marks the 42nd annual National EMS Week. In 1974, President Gerald Ford declared the first EMS week as November 3 -10.  In 1982, EMS Week moved to September, and finally in 1992 to the third week in May where it remains today. This year's theme is "EMS Strong - Called To Care"

Every day, first responders and paramedics help save lives when called to action.  In our rural area, the nearest healthcare facility can be many miles away from a medical emergency.  EMS volunteers provide a much needed service, often times initiating life-saving health care en route to the hospital.

During National EMS Week, KFIL radio will broadcast public service announcements recorded by area volunteers providing information about medical emergencies and National EMS week.  We take this time to honor and salute the caring, compassionate men and women who devote their lives to caring for others.
