Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester park is being renamed after Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Rochester Park Board approved the name change involving East Park at its Tuesday meeting.

The request for the change came from the Rochester MLK Community Action Group. The group says "dedicating the park in the memory of the slain civil rights leader would reflect the community’s dedication to inclusion during this time of polarization and division."

The official name change is expected to be part of Rochester’s Martin Luther King activities next month.

East Park is located on East Center St, just west of the federal prison. A new basketball court was installed at the park last year as part of a contest involving US Bank and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
