Rochester, MN (KROC AM News ) - An elementary school counselor for the Rochester Catholic School system has been honored by his peers with an annual award.

The Southeast Minnesota School Counselors Association has given its Elementary School Counselor of the Year award to Jovan Kristo.

He currently serves students at Holy Spirit, St. John’s and St. Pius schools.  Kristo is also a member of the Rochester Catholic Schools K-12 counseling  and Crisis Response teams and the Safe Schools Committee.  He collaborates with Victim’s Services to implement a sexual abuse prevention program and plays a key role in a bullying prevention program at Holy Spirit.

In addition to his school counseling knowledge, his previous experience with students receiving special education services provides another layer of insight and skill to students.
