With the Super Bowl taking place in Minneapolis, it's a bummer that one of Minnesota's trademark artists (if not THE artist) isn't around to perform during halftime. Seriously - how amazing would it have been if Prince was performing this year instead of Justin Timberlake? We can only dream. Or watch his amazing 2007 halftime performance (THE best ever) over again.

While Timberlake has said that the Purple One is one of his major influences, a lot of fans aren't taking too kindly to the rumors that Prince might show up during the halftime show as a hologram. This isn't just some made-up outrage, either; Prince himself was opposed to the idea during a 1998 interview with Guitar World magazine:

"Everything is as it is, and it should be. If I was meant to jam with Duke Ellington, we would have lived in the same age. That whole virtual reality thing, it really is demonic."

I've seen a lot of backlash on my Facebook and Twitter feeds about this. While I don't think Timberlake means any disrespect, I personally wouldn't go through with it if I were him. Do a quick and respectful cover of "Let's Go Crazy" or something instead.

What do you think?
