Tomorrow, July 23, is National Hot Dog Day. I LOVE hot dogs! In fact, I prefer hot dogs to hamburgers.  I'm a pretty simple person, though; I don't like condiments of any kind - skip the mustard, ketchup or whatever else - just give me a hot dog on a bun with a little salt. Yummy!  A survey by the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council revealed that the great majority of Americans top their hot dog with mustard! Mustard is followed closely by ketchup, then onions, chili, and finally, relish. Interesting. I would have thought ketchup would have been first.

And I found this fact quite staggering - between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Americans are expected to consume SEVEN BILLION hot dogs. Holy moly. That's a lot of dogs and buns!

Baseball fans love to wolf down hot dogs at the stadium.  Major league teams are pretty original and creative with their signature dogs. Tigers fans munch on the Poutine Dog, a natural casing hot dog topped with French fries, cheese, curds and beef gravy.  Pass me the antacids!  In Baltimore, you can feast on a hot dog stuffed with mac and cheese and lump crab meat topped with Old Bay seasoning. Los Angeles fans feed their hunger with a hot dog wrapped in bacon, topped with charro beans, Monterey Jack cheese and pico de gallo salsa. Wow.

However you like your hot dogs, enjoy one tomorrow - or every day!
