Minnesota Loses 8,000 Jobs in January
St Paul (KROC AM News) - Although Minnesota’s employers eliminated more than 8,000 jobs in January, there was no change in the state’s unemployment rate.
State officials released Minnesota’s latest employment report Thursday.
It shows the unemployment rate in January was 4-percent, the same as in December. It compares to 3.9 percent in January 2016.
“Trends point to solid growth in the state labor market and suggest that January’s figures may have been a temporary correction,” said DEED Commissioner Shawntera Hardy. “Over the past year, 10 of the state’s 11 major industrial sectors have gained jobs.”
During the past 12 months, the state’s economy has added just over 35,000 jobs. That works out to a growth rate of 1.2 percent. Figures show during that time, education and health services led all employment sectors with 13,247 new jobs.
The Rochester region added just under 900 jobs during that period for a growth rate of only .8 percent
