St Paul (KROC AM News) -  There was a 30-percent jump in the number of flu-related hospitalizations in Minnesota last week as more and more Minnesotans are contracting the bug.

The state Health Department’s latest weekly report on flu activity shows there were just over 170 flu patients in the hospital last week, an increase of 40 from the prior week.

The increased activity has led the department to raise its classification of activity to widespread, the highest it’s been so far this season. Two weeks ago, it was raised from local to regional.

Activity is also increasing in other states.
