Wednesday night, Cool 104 brought you a 1AA West matchup between GMLOK and Zumbrota-Mazeppa. The home Cougars beat the visiting Bulldogs 6-2

Wednesday afternoon was just a bit more cloudy than Monday, but precipitation came down, so there was no complaint there. GMLOK was retired in order in the first, then Zumbrota-Mazeppa got the afternoon going.

In the bottom half, Lyndsey Quam led off with a base hit and swiped second base, ahead of Natalie Majerus in the lineup. Majerus, batting left-handed, hit a fly ball over the fence in left for an opposite-field home run and a 2-0 Cougars lead. Bri Albers singled two batters later, stole second, and came in to score on an error to make it 3-0 after one.

Lyndsey Quam allowed two baserunners in the 2nd, but struck out the side around it, for 5 straight outs coming on strikeouts! In the third though, GMLOK got a leadoff walk. She was erased on a double play, but Lindsey Welch singled with two out. Soon she was on third, with Gretchen Corson on first looking to steal. The throw down to second was high and into center field, allowing Welch to score the first GMLOK run. That was all the Bulldogs got in that frame; then the Cougars got the bats going again.

Tara Matuska and Brianna Albers both singled to start the inning. Taylor Blackstad then came in with a sacrifice bunt to move them up. A batter later, Hannah Mensink moved them all around with a 3-run jack, to advance the lead to 6-1 Zumbrota-Mazeppa after 3 innings.

In the 4th and 5th, each team just got one baserunner in their half inning, but things started out well for the Bulldogs in the 6th.

Gracie Schmidt led off with a base hit and Courtney Fate walked. With one out, Alayna Meskill knocked one through the left side to fill the bases. Kellyn Webster then came on to hit for the first time in the contest. Webster grounded down the line to first base, but Schmidt's runner, Masie Voigt came around to score. Liz Jacobsen walked to load them up again, but the Bulldogs left them loaded in the 6th, down 6-2. That would be it, as both teams went down in order to end the ballgame.

We are hoping to have a lot more high school sports this week. We will be updating it as we go on through the morning. Make sure to keep updated with our schedule here:
