High Fire Danger in Southeast Minnesota
La Crosse, WI (KROC AM News) -The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for the eastern half of Minnesota as well as northeast Iowa, and western Wisconsin.
It will be in effect through Sunday evening due to high fire danger.
A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are expected.
The danger is the result of the combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, warm temperatures and very dry vegetation. These conditions will allow any fires that break out to spread rapidly and become difficult to contain.
Conditions may ease over the next few days in part because of possible rain. But that may cause another problem - flooding.
Flood warnings remain in effect along the Mississippi River from the Twin Cities southward. The National Weather Service says water levels will continue to rise this week with minor flooding expected in some areas. If heavy rain falls in the area, it could increase the risk of flooding.
