Fire swept through the grandstand at Tink Larson Field in Waseca on Wednesday night, destroying the grandstand and concession building.

 

A local resident called the 911 center a little after 8PM Wednesday, according to various media outlets to report the fire. The blaze engulfed the facility as crews battled the fire. It reportedly spread quickly. Many people lined the streets, including the field's namesake.

Video of the fire has appeared on a number of media sites, including KARE 11 out of the Twin Cities. Officials were on site Thursday morning.

The Minnesota Baseball Coaches Association created the Tink Larson Field of the Year Award in 1993. Larson was an inaugural inductee into the coaches association hall of fame in 2004. The Kasson-Mantorville graduate led the high school program in Waseca for 35 years, winning a state title in 1990. Larson has been the driving force behind many field upgrades over the years to the field.

Waseca High School is scheduled to host a game against Mankato East on Friday. Tink Larson Field is the home to many levels of baseball including the VFW, Legion, high school and amateur teams.
