A 39-year-old Dodge County man is dead after making terroristic threats toward an Owatonna resident and leading officers on a chase Monday, according to a news release from the Steele County Sheriff's Office. The individual's name is being withheld until notification of family occurs.

The sheriff's office reports that Blooming Prairie Police received a call at 11:40AM Monday, August 28, of a man armed with a handgun and making terroristic threats directed at an Owatonna resident. Responding police could not immediately locate him.

At about 12:02PM, an Owatonna officer located the suspect's vehicle and a pursuit ensued involving the Steele County Sheriff, Minnesota State Patrol and Blooming Prairie Police, in addition to Owatonna police. A Steele County Sheriff squad car made a maneuver to stop the vehicle. The lone occupant of the vehicle shot himself.

Blooming Prairie Ambulance responded and pronounced the man dead. No drugs or alcohol were detected at this time, pending autopsy results. The Steele County Coroner's Office and Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner's Office assisted. The incident remains under investigation with no further information from the sheriff's office at this time.
