Congrats to Some Other Grads

After many high school graduations the past couple weeks, I forgot to post about another graduation in May. D.A.R.E. graduation, that is. A couple Thursdays ago, there were 169 sixth-grade students from five different Fillmore County schools graduating from the DARE program.

D.A.R.E., which stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education, is all around the country, and has been in Minnesota for 28 years now. To graduate the program this year, the students completed 10 lessons. A lot of the theme was decisions. Sheriff Kaase has seen DARE grads in both good and bad situations based on either the: advice they took OR the choices they made. On one side, the doctors, attorneys, officers, etc. and on the other, those who are serving time.

It was repeated a number of times that the people who make bad choices are not bad

people; they just made a mistake and need to Learn from it. All of the grads got to go up front to receive their certificates, and the winners of the essay contest were announced. There was one winner from each school, and they each received a Kindle tablet.

Congrats and good job to these DARE grads from Fillmore Central, Kingsland, Lanesboro, Mabel-Canton, and Rushford-Peterson schools!
