City Council Awards Contract for Mayo Civic Center Project

The Rochester City Council held a special meeting Monday afternoon and voted to award the construction contract for the huge Mayo Civic Center expansion and renovation project to Knutson Construction.

The Mayo Civic Center Commission met earlier in the day and voted unanimously to recommend the firm’s bid of about $72 million. The overall cost of the project has been estimated at $84 million, with the state covering $35 million of the price tag.

A groundbreaking ceremony has been scheduled on March 19th, beginning an over two-year construction schedule the calls for the entire project to be completed in August 2017.
