It's been a long and stressful journey, but this beautiful and strong-willed baby is finally headed home to Waverly, Iowa.

McKenna Hovenga, who was barely two months old when she was accidentally hit in the head by an overthrown softball when she and her mother were watching her father's softball game has thankfully made enough progress to be released from St. Mary's Hospital:

Since she was airlifted to Rochester and diagnosed with bleeding of the brain and a skull fracture that fateful evening she has suffered multiple seizures, some of them coming in clusters, due to swelling of her brain and pressure from multiple blood clots.

This little fighter certainly had her good days and bad ones, but the biggest shock came when we learned that someone had tried to take advantage of her families dire situation by creating a fake gofundme account. It was a truly disgusting act, over Mother's Day weekend no less, but luckily the family was notified and the account was shut down immediately.

The important thing here is that she's going home, and for that, we're all thankful.

You can continue to follow McKenna's story on her Facebook page, or her new website healingformckenna.com

If you'd like to continue helping out McKenna's family, the family has shared their address if you'd like to send them other things like card, clothes, blankets or toys: "Healing for McKenna" PO Box 308 Shell Rock, Iowa USA 50670.
