Ben grew up in Mabel, Minnesota before going on to get a degree from Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato. He spent much of his youth listening to Twins games on KFIL. Ben moved on and wrote articles for his college sports website and also wrote Rochester Honkers game summaries while interning with Townsquare Media in Rochester. Ben likes most all the sports, though he knows the letdown that is associated with the Minnesota teams. One of his first CD's was Alan Jackson, and you can hear a mix of country music, from Merle Haggard to Taylor Swift when Ben is on air.

Tight Game Early-Lions Roar Past Houston
Thursday night, KVGO had some 1A East subsection quarterfinal boys basketball on the air waves as well, as the Houston Hurricanes traveled to Spring Grove. Spring Grove erased an early deficit and won by a score of 72-33.
In the early going, the game was almost like the Houston game in Mabel on Tuesday night...
Ben Didn’t Eat (All) The Cookies
To set the record straight, I didn't have access to all of the cookies. With family involved in selling Girl Scout cookies in different regions, I was the "mule." Now knowing that there are two different bakers of Girl Scout cookies, I can maybe explain and clear my name...
Houston Takes Victory in Back-And-Forth Game
Tuesday night, KFIL brought you a boys basketball playoff game as the Mabel-Canton Cougars hosted the Houston Hurricanes. The score was tied at least 15 times before it was over, and Houston survived to take the 57-56 victory. The Hurricanes will move on to play Spring Grove Thursday...
Lanesboro Memorial “Ice Fishing” Photos
The weekend before we got more snow, the ice had melted so much that the Lanesboro Memorial Ice Fishing Tournament had to change its format. There were beanbags, the seniors served up the food out back, and there were many prizes. Did you make it out there...
Some Snow on Sunday Stroll
So I walked around Mabel on a Sunday afternoon again. This time I had to bundle up a bit more, and I started out late so my step count ended up about 800 steps away from my 10,000 step goal. So, after the wild finish to the Daytona 500, I went out there...
The Legally Blind Mountain Biker!
I went to college with one of the most wild guys you could ever meet. His name is Josh Arndt, from Madelia, Minnesota. I called him up last night and I'm pretty sure he is one of the most wild vicars in California, and we earlier this year he entered to win a contest online...
Burros Advance!
Tuesday night on KFIL, the Lanesboro Burros girls basketball team took on the Hope Lutheran Patriots. The Burros got off to a hot start and kept it going for a 54-15 victory. Lanesboro advances to play Mabel-Canton on Thursday.
I got both coach interviews to play right before tip-off, but had to catch my breath to get back after hanging up the KFIL banner across the way (thanks to TJ Ruen for help
An Atypical Sunday Stroll in Mabel
Did you get outside this weekend? For being February, it has been quite warm. So, after having a bit of a lazy afternoon, I decided to go on a walk around Mabel.
Burros Earn Season Sweep
The Lanesboro Burros boys basketball team earned the season sweep of the Houston Hurricanes by winning 68-42 at Houston. Both games between the teams were broadcast on KFIL. This night was Parents Night, so we were a bit delayed to start the broadcast...
Hughes Keeps Rib
Phil Hughes wants to keep just one souvenir from a tough 2016. Last season, Hughes was only able to pitch 59 innings after being hit in the knee by a comebacker, and later having a season-ending surgery for another issue in July. That surgery was to correct thoracic outlet syndrome (common to MLB pitchers recently) and now he's keeping the rib that was removed...
