St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Minnesota failed to end its 2 ½ year run without a Powerball jackpot winner with Wednesday night’s record breaking drawing, but state lottery officials say a dozen tickets worth $50,000 each were sold in the state. Almost 380,000 Minnesotans won smaller prizes in the drawing, although about two-thirds were only for the minimum $4 prize.

Lottery officials also note that lottery tickets sold in Minnesota during the 20 drawings that led up to Wednesday night’s $1.6 billion jackpot had number combinations worth over $6 million dollars in prizes. The sales that occurred for those 20 drawings generated over $20 million for the state’s general fund and earned the state’s Powerball retailers nearly $3 million.

The three winning tickets for Wednesday night’s massive jackpot were sold in California, Tennessee and Florida.
